Description

The workforce shortage is perhaps the most pressing challenge contractors face right now and many are asking where we can find more individuals to fill our managerial roles. This session will discuss strategies for more effective recruitment and retention, based on the unique characteristics found when studying gender, ethnicity and age.

  • Ben Bigelow

    Ben F. Bigelow is an associate professor and Director of the Construction Science Division at the University of Oklahoma.  He attended High School in Coppell, TX and earned a BS in construction science at Texas A&M, an MS in construction management at Arizona State University, and a PhD from The School of Education at Colorado State University.  Before coming to the University of Oklahoma he spent six years in the Construction Science Department at Texas A&M University.  Dr. Bigelow spent 3 years working in production homebuilding and 8 more years as a remodeling contractor.  He continues to perform select projects, and provides consulting services.  Dr. Bigelow’s research is focused on housing and human resource issues in construction.  Dr. Bigelow is also a Sunday School teacher at his church, and has been a long-time volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.
